One of the biggest factors affecting mental health in the modern world is the consumption of meaningless content, which is often very negative.
If most of us ate food like we consumed “content”(social media, podcasts, 24h news channels/websites, etc) we would all be 250kg. Yet we carry on gorging on a river of digital garbage as if our lives depended on it.
Thinking on consumption of media as if it were food for our mood and long term health, what could we change?
Quality
Are we learning from what we are consuming? Is it helping us move closer towards a goal or helping us relax from the stresses of working or learning? Or are we Doom Scrolling
Quantity
10 to 15 minutes to catchup on messages or upload a picture from earlier in the day is perfectly fine. But just like snacking, doing it over and over again or for long periods of time is detrimental to our health.
